Saturn's Karmic Finger #4 – Taxus Interruptus

by Victoria on February 1, 2009

My weekly wrap-up that sometimes involves flipping off the previous week.
So why Saturn’s Karmic Finger?
In palmistry, the middle finger is the Saturn finger. Saturday (aka Saturn’s Day) is my chosen day for writing these updates. The Saturn finger is also the finger of karma, which is really all about our life lessons. And life is just chock-full of lessons for all of us, isn’t it?
But, have no fear – with a series named after an obscene gesture, there will be no sanctimonious preaching or trite takeaways here.

Yes, this week’s edition of Saturn’s Karmic Finger is a day late. And will probably be short.

This past week was really uneventful.

Well, to be exact, the parts of the week that were eventful are off limits for public blogging. Makes it challenging to write even just a weekly wrap-up.

Knowing I couldn’t really discuss a lot of what went on, when Saturday rolled around, I just didn’t feel like writing.

And then there is that annual event of preparing to do our taxes.

That’s my job in our little family. And we’ve got just enough complication in our tax situation to make me feel like we’re better off having someone prepare the forms for us. You know, one of those professional types.

We used to have a great tax guy, but his rates got too high for what we needed.

Then we found a new guy last year and that was a complete disaster. As in, he wound up needing to file an amendment for us right after prematurely e-filing our forms.

Complete CF.

As you can imagine, we weren’t planning on using him again. But that meant it was going to be up to me to find someone else. Which I have totally procrastinated on.

All of the prep and the finding someone to help (and, and, and) translated into a build up of pressure. A dark cloud over my head that just kept getting darker.

Toward the end of the week, it went from being something I couldn’t face to something I needed to deal with right away.

So when I had the house to myself yesterday, weekly blog post be damned, I had to tackle the taxes.

Or perhaps I was practicing creative avoidance of blogging.

Either way, I’m happy with the progress. Still waiting for two blasted W-2’s, and I have some real estate expenses to tabulate, but I took it as far as I could in a few hours on Saturday.

Now I feel like it’s under control. Such a wonderful feeling – I’m lighter, my mind is clearer because now, even though there’s more work to do, it’s doable. I know what’s left, instead of turning the project into something massive in my mind.

So maybe it wasn’t creative avoidance, because if it were, wouldn’t I be finding some other reason to avoid blogging today? Perhaps.

The week in a few sentences

Worked. Went home. Exercised. Ate. Slept. Rinse. Repeat.

Ordered a Skype headset so I can finally get with the 21st century and make Skype calls. It should arrive Tuesday.

One more week left of detoxing. Finally feeling good and can pull off some exercise every day.

I wish I had more to wow you with, but there you have it. The real deal.

I’m off to enjoy the rest of my Sunday.

What’s new with you?

Well, I can’t speak for others but getting taxes under control *does* wow me. That would take all of my mental energy for the week, andthensome. (I shall be doing mine at the beginning of April if past performance is any indicator.)

I have turned tax season into a game…how quick can I get them done and get the refund…lol

This year I got the refunds by the 29th of Jan and they are already spent…but, at least this year it was towards fun stuff.

This will probably change for next year, but had fun in the meantime..lol

@Eileen – That’s very kind of you. Doing your taxes in April is actually great – I have a friend who files for an extension every year.

@Amy – Ooh good for you! I’m envious. I only got my missing W-2 a couple of days ago. Now I have to re-motivate myself to start dealing with it. Sigh. Thanks for stopping by!
