Saturn's Karmic Finger #3 – Shivapiphany

by Victoria on January 24, 2009

This feels like it was a strange week, even though not much happened. At least it looks like not much happened.

Initially I was tempted to just write, “Same shit, different day.” But that would be silly. And false.

First, An Aside

Anytime I hear that phrase (same shit, different day), I think of my dad, who likes to take English sayings and translate them into Japanese. As in, literal translations that 95% of the time would make no sense whatsoever to a native Japanese speaker.

And before you go thinking my dad must be really bizarre for doing that, there IS a reason why Japanese is the chosen language for this exercise. We used to live there long ago. But that’s a story for another day.

Fun Detox Symptom of the Week

For several days this past week, I was having salt issues. Unsalty things (for instance, plain water) tasted salty.

And when I was putting salt on my food? Didn’t change the taste at all. It was like my tastebuds were turned inside out or something.

Shivapiphany

And as I wrote just yesterday, I had a shivapiphany (probably the biggest one since starting my Dance of Shiva practice) about my use of illness as self-protection. Having the Thought was intense enough, but then posting about it?

I was a bit of a mess yesterday, feeling like I was in the middle of one of those naked dreams.

You know the ones, where you suddenly realize you’re in the middle of gym class completely naked and even though you want to run away to go find some clothes, you just stand there because your legs weigh 50 pounds each. And you keep wondering, “Egads, how long have I been naked in front of all these people?!?”

But slowly I’m starting to feel clothed again. Next up – pants! Er, trousers!

New-to-Me Meditation Practice – Remembrance

I learned about this via Havi when she posted on one way to find your right price, which she learned from Mark Silver. Part of that process is a practice called Remembrance. If you aren’t already familiar with Mark’s blog, you should all go check it out – lots of excellent information and insight.

I’ve meditated for a while now, but I was looking for a different practice to try. It’s only been a few days, but so far I’m loving this one.

It’s simple - no chants or steps to learn.

And it’s silent, so I don’t have to wonder if I sound like a loon while chanting. Wondering if people can hear me while I meditate is a bit distracting.

That was my week in 500 words or less.

Because apparently I can’t write a shorter post.

Thanks for coming out to play. Until next time!

I’ve just started doing the Remembrance too. It’s a great way to start the day.

Oh! Right price exercise! I’m overdue — thanks for the reminder.
And looking forward to hearing the translating-into-Japanese story, another day.
