Everybody has ways of working that are best for them. Do you know yours?

My client, Julie, was having trouble attracting new clients for her editing business. When we started talking about what wasn’t working for her, she shared that she was trying to do all her networking online, like on Twitter and LinkedIn, because she believed it was more efficient than going to live events. When we looked at the Shmorian Elements that would help her thrive, we found that Connection is crucial.

So I asked her how *she* would want to connect with potential clients. By thinking about what Connection meant to her, she remembered that meeting people in person is more fun for her and leaves her feeling energized. The next week she gave herself permission to go to a networking event and made two solid connections.

The point? You’ll get better results and enjoy the process a lot more by doing your work in the ways you want, rather than by trying to follow someone else’s rules.

Do any of these sound like you?

  • You’re trying to create or launch something. It could be a business, a website, a product, or a course. Regardless of what it is you’re trying to create, it feels like you just can’t find the time to make significant progress on it.
  • When you do find time to work on The Project (cue dramatic music), it feels draining and you’d rather pay bills or do laundry than spend time on this thing that was supposed to be fun and energizing.
  • You’ve got way too much on your plate right now and you’re caught in a cycle of rushing to meet deadlines and then crashing. And then you have to rush some more because you weren’t getting any work done while you were trying to recover from your last project.
  • You’re trying to be a good do-bee and listen to the so-called experts so that you can grow your business into something that supports you, but following their advice somehow doesn’t feel true to you. You’ve got a nagging sense of not believing in the things you’re doing their way. Or worse, you keep feeling like you need to take a shower.
  • You keep thinking, “I just have to get through this project,” but then you realize that after this one, there will be another one. You keep trying to tell yourself to Just Get Over It, but it doesn’t help.

You don’t have to “just get over yourself” to get things done.

Two big things happen when we don’t do our work in ways that are best for us.

  1. We stir up lots of resistance. When we work in ways that aren’t a good fit for us, we’re not meeting our needs. When our needs aren’t being met, parts of ourselves begin to freak out.
  2. We perpetuate the cycle of pushing through and recovering.

By planning and implementing your projects in ways that are aligned with who you are and how you work best, you’ll have more energy, enjoy your work more, and make more money.

Because isn’t the point of starting or growing your own business to do work that’s satisfying both while you’re working on it and after it’s complete?

Enter the Periodic Table of Shmorian Elements

I can help you figure out what strategy will work best for you.

Just as people and objects are made up of different chemical elements – elements that make them what they are – you are made up of a unique combination of Shmorian Elements.

The Shmorian Elements are Qualities and Values that will help guide you toward the best strategies and choices in your current project and projects to come.

By getting clear on what Elements you need to do your best work, you’ll spend more time making progress, and less time spinning your wheels in recovery mode.

I’ll help you create the Periodic Table of You.

  • We’ll talk about how you want your project and its launch to feel.
  • I’ll help you figure out which Elements you need in your life and work to stay energized.
  • You’ll be able to use that information to structure your work in ways that will feed you throughout the entire process from idea-generation to launch day to supporting your creations.

Why should I work with you?

For one thing, I was voted Most Cynical of my high school class.

What that means for you is I’m not the kind of coach who’s going to tell you the only way to be happy is to work 2 hours a day and spend the rest of the time doing yoga. Let’s be real.

I would never say “just change.” I know first-hand it’s not that simple.

Before you can change anything you have to make sure your needs are being met. Otherwise your resistance kicks in.

How many project coaches are concerned with how your projects are making you feel?

You don’t need someone cracking the whip. You need someone who can offer you deep empathy, hold space for you while you explore an issue, and approach problems in a no-bullshit kind of way.

Testimonials

I’ve been working on this one thing for what, like six years? (It’s complicated, but it has to do with getting my head and my heart to work together instead of against each other.) Victoria and I totally solved it during our second session. How ’bout that? I expected that with a mere three sessions we’d make some progress, maybe make a dent in it, but no. TOTALLY SOLVED in two.

Victoria helped me to identify what I wanted to accomplish, based on my own vision for an ideal work day. I decided that writing an e-book would be the next step in getting to where I want to be. After only two sessions with Victoria, I was well into the first draft of the book, and am already revising it.

Dear Victoria,

You helped me so much! We set a goal & you helped me come up with practical and implementable steps to meet it. During our weekly meetings your approach was always a wonderful blend of ideal and practical, soft and hard, compassion and pragmatism, hilarity (oh the puns!) and seriousness.

Can I tell you that July was my best business month all year? There you go: it was! In fact, week before last I surpassed my clients/week goal by 2 people. How fantastic is that. Thank YOU! A million times thank you!
